Warm Air Systems
A large number of properties have warm air central heating installed, using either gas or oil fired air heaters. These systems have very rapid response - they heat the home very quickly - with the added advantage that no wallspace is lost to radiators.
Heating Maintenance Services Ltd. maintain a large number of air heaters (oil and gas) and regularly carry out replacements. The UK market leaders for new gas warm air units are Johnson & Starley Ltd. from Northampton, and HMS Ltd. are approved installers of Johnson & Starley heaters.
Heaters are available with either open flue or balanced flue to suit the particular application.
A major improvement built-in to many new Johnson & Starley air heaters is modulating control. When the property is cold and the heater first starts, it runs at full speed. As the indoor temperature rises towards the required setting, the unit progressively slows down and provides less heat, trying to provide exactly the required quantity to match the heat losses to the exterior. Not only does this maintain a near-constant internal temperature, but a slower running unit is even quieter than normal, and we think that slow continuous running must be better for the life of an air heater than stop-start operation.
Johnson & Starley offer optional Electronic Filters. It is estimated that on full demand the air in the house will pass over the heater six times per hour. At every pass the air will be filtered and 95% of airborne pollutants down to 1 micron in size will be removed. Particles such as pollen, house dust and cigarette smoke will be removed.
Over the years, HMS Ltd. have replaced heaters from the following manufacturers:-
