OFTEC
is the Oil Firing Technical Association. It is an independent body
authorised by the office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) to register
businesses working with oli-fired equipment.
OFTEC
helps registered businesses to maintain safety standards throughout
the industry
From
April 1st 2005, it is a requirement for all oil fired installations
and commissioning works carried out under the Building Regulations
in England and Wales to be reported to the Local Authority Building
Control Department.
Registered
businesses can self-certify their work by notifying OFTEC, who will
then notify the relevent Local Authority Building Control Department
A requirement
of OFTEC registration is all registered technicians must have bee
assessed, tested and hold a valid OFTEC certificate of competence
in the areas of oil work carried out.
Certificates
are valid for 5 years, after whick re-accessment and re-certification
is necessary
Oil
Safety - Techinical experts are available who can advise OFTEC registered
installers about standards, regulation and answer technical oil safety
queries.
A consimer
information service - Consimers can contact OFTEC to find their local
registeed oil installer, or investigate complaints where a lack of
technical competance is a consern.
