What’s available?
More and more of us are looking to Renewable Technologies to help reduce both our fuel bills and greenhouse gas emissions. At HMS Ltd, our expert Solar Power Engineer team can help, as we install Solar PV panels, Ground Source Heat Pumps and Air Source Heat Pumps.
A Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) works by drawing heat from the ground through pipework buried in trenches or boreholes. Below a depth of one metre, the ground stays at a steady temperature of around 8 to 12°C, which makes it a reliable source of energy year-round.
On the other hand, an Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) collects heat from the outside air. While the air is often cooler than the ground, making the system slightly less efficient, it’s still an effective option. Plus, since there’s no need to dig trenches or boreholes, the upfront cost is usually lower.
Because heat pumps heat water to around 45°C to 55°C, which is lower than a standard boiler, you’ll usually need larger radiators, fan convectors, or underfloor heating to keep your space warm and comfortable.

Government assistance
The Government offers financial assistance in the form of Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), and the scheme is administered by OFGEM, the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets. This is a non-ministerial government department and an independent National Regulatory Authority.
HMS are fully MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) accredited and can apply for the grant on your behalf.
